The crisis of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) took a brand new flip. The agitating lecturers, students and staff of BUET on Sunday submitted a memorandum to President Zillur Rahman, conjointly the chancellor of the university, for removal of their vice-chancellor and pro-vice-chancellor.
Prof Dr Mujibur Rahman and Ashraful Islam,submitted the memorandum to the president.
Hundreds of demonstrators of BUET started marching towards Bangabhaban, the official residence of the president, from their university campus with a procession to submit the memo. however police obstructed them close to Doel Chattar around 11:30am and later allowed some lecturers to travel to the presidential palace.
However, another cluster of lecturers and ruling party-backed Bangladesh Chhatra League rallying in support of the administration and terming the protesters’ demand illogical.
Moreover, the vice-chancellor SM Nazrul Islam says “I have sent a letter to the teachers’ association president, Md Mujibur Rahman, giving talks over the crisis and requesting them to resume categories however he refused to speak.”
“I have met education minister Nurul Islam Nahid and conjointly can meet him once more on Sunday for an answer,” he said, adding that he wished to fulfill president Zillur Rahman, conjointly the chancellor, at the side of the representatives of the teachers’ association.
